If you are new to the Tulsa Metro, the first Thanksgiving here is a great introduction to how this community works. Tulsa does the holiday generously: races on Thanksgiving morning, community dinners that feed thousands, local kitchens that will cook your whole feast, and a holiday season that officially lights up the weekend after. Over my years helping families relocate to Tulsa, I have learned that the way a city celebrates Thanksgiving tells you a lot about what it is like to live there the other 364 days.

Below is my guide to Thanksgiving week across the Tulsa Metro, from the turkey trots and volunteer shifts to the best places to order the meal, dine out, and kick off the holiday lights. Whether you are hosting the whole family or starting a brand new Tulsa tradition, here is where to begin.

1

Thanksgiving Morning Starts With a Run

Tulsa's best-known Thanksgiving race is the Fleet Feet Tulsa Turkey Trot, a Black Friday tradition that starts and ends at the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa. It offers a 5K run/walk plus a family-friendly Fun Run, and entry includes a long-sleeve race shirt, post-race treats, and a finisher medal. The 2026 race is set for Friday, November 27, and it conveniently coincides with the opening of Tulsa Winterfest, so you can run, refuel, and then go find the ice rink. For families who want something gentler, the Von Franken Family Food Run takes place Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m. at River West Festival Park, an untimed run/walk where a nonperishable food donation is the entry fee.

2

Community Dinners and Food Boxes Feed Thousands

John 3:16 Mission hosts one of the largest Thanksgiving efforts in the region. Its Great Thanksgiving Banquet serves sit-down meals at its downtown shelter over multiple nights, and the mission also runs a drive-thru Thanksgiving food box giveaway with turkeys and traditional sides at its Family and Youth Center at 2027 N Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Across the metro, churches and community groups host free Thanksgiving dinners as well, including gatherings in Glenpool and at VFW posts, so no one in the Tulsa area has to spend the holiday alone.

3

Order the Feast From Local Kitchens

If cooking the whole bird is not your plan, Tulsa restaurants and caterers have you covered. Justin Thompson Catering, the team behind PRHYME Downtown Steakhouse and Juniper, prepares custom chef-made Thanksgiving meals for any size gathering. Antoinette Baking Co. downtown takes pre-orders for pies, desserts, breads, and spreads. Cherry Street Kitchen offers a full holiday catering menu, Bourbon St. Cafe does entrees, sides, and desserts for pickup, and Ti Amo Ristorante Italiano takes Thanksgiving pre-orders and catering while staying open on the day itself. For a soul-food spread, My Momma's House does turkey, ham, candy yams, collard greens, and mac and cheese by phone order. The Chamber at the Tulsa Club Hotel sells a Thanksgiving meal to go that serves four to six, and Cracker Barrel offers family-style holiday meals for pickup in the days before the holiday. Menus and deadlines change every year, so order early and confirm.

4

Dine Out on Thanksgiving Day

Prefer to let someone else do the dishes? The Eatery at Hard Rock Tulsa runs an annual Thanksgiving buffet from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with roasted turkey, prime rib, glazed ham, and all the traditional sides. Black Bear Diner serves a holiday menu plus family-style meals to go, Tally's Good Food Café is a Tulsa favorite that stays open on Thanksgiving, and Golden Corral hosts its classic holiday spread. There are plenty of options across the metro, from casual diners to full buffets.

5

Give Back: Volunteer Shifts That Matter

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest volunteer days of the year in Tulsa. Iron Gate, the city's largest stand-alone soup kitchen and grocery pantry, needs hands on the community meal line and in the pantry. Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa needs around 240 volunteer drivers each Thanksgiving to deliver hot meals to homebound seniors. John 3:16 Mission relies on volunteers to pack Thanksgiving food boxes and serve banquet meals, and Feed The City Tulsa hosts recurring meal-making events. If your family wants to make the holiday meaningful, sign up early, these shifts fill fast.

6

The Holidays Kick Off Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving night is when Tulsa officially lights up. Utica Square's Lights On, a tradition dating to the late 1960s, gathers families at 21st and Utica for a countdown that lights roughly 175 trees at once, with carolers and musicians on hand. Rhema Christmas Lights in Broken Arrow, free every season since 1982 and drawing about half a million visitors a year, typically opens the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and runs nightly through January 1. The Philbrook Festival turns the museum's Italian Renaissance villa and gardens into a holiday spectacular, and the Jenks Christmas Parade marches down Main Street. For families, the Tulsa Zoo, Gathering Place, and Discovery Lab all make easy Thanksgiving-weekend outings.

7

Shop Small Tulsa and Holiday Markets

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is Small Business Saturday, and Tulsa celebrates it big. Shop Small Tulsa, organized by TulsaGo, brings together more than 100 local businesses, and shoppers who buy at participating shops can win cash prizes. Holiday markets add to the fun: Mother Road Market hosts holiday art markets with local makers, the Tulsa Farmers' Market Yuletide Market brings locally made gifts, live music, and Santa, the Downtown Gift Market pops up at Chapman Green during the Tulsa Christmas Parade, and the Tulsa Christmas Market at the Nutcracker Festival gathers artisans from across Oklahoma. It is the best weekend of the year to shop local and support the small businesses that make Tulsa neighborhoods feel like home.

The Thanksgiving Spots I Point Tulsa Newcomers To First

A great Thanksgiving week in Tulsa comes down to a handful of places and people who do it well every year. These are the ones I mention first when clients ask how to spend the holiday, whether they are hosting, volunteering, or just looking for the best pie in town.

Fleet Feet Tulsa Turkey Trot

200 S Denver Ave, downtown Tulsa (BOK Center)

Tulsa's Black Friday race tradition starts and ends at the BOK Center, with a 5K run/walk and a Fun Run, a long-sleeve shirt, post-race treats, and a finisher medal. The 2026 race is set for Friday, November 27, and it lines up perfectly with the opening of Tulsa Winterfest next door. It sells out most years, so register early.

Von Franken Family Food Run

River West Festival Park, 2100 S Jackson Ave, Tulsa

A gentle, untimed family run/walk on Thanksgiving morning at 9 a.m., with a nonperishable food donation as your entry fee. It is the perfect way to get the kids moving before the big meal, and the food collected supports local families. Check the event listing each year for registration details.

John 3:16 Mission

2027 N Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Tulsa

The mission's Great Thanksgiving Banquet serves sit-down meals at its downtown shelter over multiple nights, and its drive-thru food box giveaway hands out turkeys and traditional sides to families in need. Volunteers help pack the boxes and serve the meals, and the effort feeds thousands every year.

Iron Gate

501 W Archer St, Tulsa

Tulsa's largest stand-alone soup kitchen and grocery pantry, Iron Gate serves a community meal line and keeps its pantry stocked year round. Thanksgiving week is one of its busiest, and volunteers are needed to serve meals and sort donations. It is one of the most direct ways to give back in Tulsa.

Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa

Serving homebound seniors across the Tulsa Metro

Meals on Wheels needs about 240 volunteer drivers each Thanksgiving to deliver hot holiday meals to homebound seniors. Routes take about an hour, and the gratitude is immediate. It is a wonderful way to involve older kids in giving back.

Antoinette Baking Co.

207 N Main St, Tulsa

Antoinette takes Thanksgiving pre-orders for pies, desserts, breads, and spreads, and it is a downtown favorite for taking something beautiful to someone else's table. Order by the deadline in the days before Thanksgiving and pick up fresh.

Ti Amo Ristorante Italiano

202 S Cheyenne Ave, Tulsa

Ti Amo takes Thanksgiving pre-orders and catering and stays open on Thanksgiving Day, so it works for both a take-home feast and a dine-out meal. The downtown location makes it easy to pair dinner with an evening walk through the holiday lights.

Tally's Good Food Café

1102 S Yale Ave, Tulsa

A Tulsa institution on Route 66 that stays open on Thanksgiving Day, serving its classic comfort-food menu when other kitchens are closed. If your family wants a no-fuss holiday meal with a side of Tulsa charm, this is a dependable pick.

Rhema Christmas Lights

1025 W Kenosha St, Broken Arrow

The centerpiece of Tulsa Metro holiday lights, free every season since 1982 and drawing roughly half a million visitors a year. Millions of LED lights wrap the 110-acre campus, and the display typically opens the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, making it the perfect Thanksgiving-weekend kickoff.

Philbrook Festival

2727 S Rockford Rd, Tulsa

The Philbrook Museum turns its Italian Renaissance villa and formal gardens into a holiday spectacular with thousands of lights, musical shows, hot cocoa, and family art activities. It sells out, so book festival nights early, and plan to wander the gardens after dark.

Why Thanksgiving Week Is a Sneaky-Good Time to House Hunt in Tulsa

Thanksgiving week is one of the most underrated weeks of the year to look at homes in the Tulsa Metro. Sellers who list in November are usually motivated, the holiday lull means less competition at showings, and out-of-town relatives who visit for the holiday often end up touring neighborhoods with you, which is how many of my relocating clients first fell in love with a Tulsa suburb.

The week also tells you a lot about a neighborhood: how it handles holiday traffic, whether the lights come out in force, how close the local markets and community dinners are, and what the commute feels like when the whole city is running errands. When I show homes in late November, I point buyers at the same local spots in this guide, because the way a community celebrates Thanksgiving says a lot about what it is like to live there year round. For a broader look at how the metro's communities compare, see my Tulsa Metro community guide.

If you are thinking about a move, the holiday season is a great time to start the conversation. Reach out and we can talk about neighborhoods, timing, and what your family's Tulsa Thanksgiving might look like next year. That is the part of this job I genuinely enjoy, matching families not just with a house, but with the community where their traditions will grow.
